the design concept would generally be the same. make the hard boundaries around a space with good modal distribution or other quality or desirable attributes, and then add additional treatments to get the space to the desired set of characteristics. for example, a drum booth might be "live", a vocal booth might be "dry", a live room could be both depending on location in the room or by changing some configuration in it.
generally speaking you would want the room to be "neutral" (so you don't have a build up of undesirable room artifacts in the recording) yet have enough character to make it something distinctive or desirable to have in your recording (if thats what you want).
