Just found these bands.
« on: November 05, 2007, 09:38:03 AM »

What took so long I wonder?

Pinback, Rogue Wave, and Minus The Bear.

Wow! I did a search in the forum, and apparently this topic is old news. That Pinback rocks (pick a record... they all have something cool)!

I'm verklempt... talk amongst yourselves.

if you like Pinback, you should definitely check out some of Rob Crow's other work. he has about 100 side projects, but Heavy Vegetable (and the reformed version, Other Men) are particularly great.

Don't forget Optigannaly Yours, where (almost?) everything is played on various examples of Matel's celluloid disc-based children's version of the Mellotron.

And then there's Goblin Cock....

Pinback is a good band name too. The reference is very obscure.

If no one here has yet, you should also check out:

Caribou - http://www.caribou.fm  (check out the Pink Room live videos on youtube. rad.)

Dungen - http://www.dungen-music.com

Grizzly Bear - http://www.grizzly-bear.net

all leaning more towards the psychedelia side, but still very solid songwriting and really impressive chops.

word.

The new Caribou album is hands down the best thing to come out of Canada this past year.  Beautiful!  Lush!

Totally with you on Caribou's 'Andorra'. From what I have gathered, this is a one-man-band type thing, Daniel Snaith (sp?) constructs all songs through pre-recorded samples of himself playing.

The man is one hell of a drummer, not to mention every other instrument on the album. Look for the live videos, the show just kills.

Just saw Caribou last month.  Great psychedelic show.  2 drummers.  Awesome.

I've done just that [checked into Rob Crow]. What an incredible songwriter.

That Jose Gonzales stuff is pretty cool, but I don't get all the distortion in the guitar tracks. Is that the only way to get catgut to sound interesting?  [let me clarify: in that style. I'm not talking classical or Flamenco... let's not go there] Razz

One of the worst things I have ever witnessed was the lead singer of Pinback, lip sinking at a show here in Salt Lake about 3 years back, no lie. Shocked   I like their first 2 albums but kind stopped after that.  That first album is awesome!

Yeah anyone who hasn't seen Caribou go see them asap!!!  Best live show I have seen in a long time.  Every time I started to think oh this sounds like so and so, they would go in an entirely different direction, then was obvious, and it would work so well.

I was on my way to their DC show last sunday and they cancelled! Huge bummer. The drummer fell and broke his wrist apparently.
