Well isn't that cute.
Oughta be a space in a museum for it somewhere.
Wanted one back in the day, but the sticker shock...
Makes me chuckle to see it going for a song.

Even in its day the Sony PCM F1 kicked its ass sonically.

Yikes! This is only the processing unit, right? Don't you still need a 3/4" deck to record to or does this take the cartridge?!?

Yeah - you need a DMR2000 or DMR4000 Umatic deck to go with this if you actually want to create masters. The vast majority of plants can't do direct transfer from 1630 to glass master these days anyway - most of them would have to have it transferred to a CD-R or DDP image first.

Yeah, I regularly deliver DDPs electronically to a label in Nashville but on the whole, most duplication plants seem to have adopted a turn and burn mentality and just want a CD master.

I wonder if there's going to be a thread ten years from now about someone selling their CD-R drive...?

Let's all go in together to buy the 1630. It'll spend a week at my house and then a week at your house and then a week at...

I don't have too many regrets about my chosen profession.
I would like to have all the hours back that I've spent listening to guitars being tuned.
I would really like to get back all the hours I spent proofing 1610 and 1630 copies just to have them rejected by manufacturing.
I do like the meters though........

Ditto there.

It's A-D filters were sometimes replaced with Apogee ones, which I can't comment on as I never heard 'em but we had custom modded ones (gentler filters) & it became the reference when testing newer convertors (all at 16/44).

I had my F1 converters changed to Apogee. It made a huge difference as I recall.
