I beta test for PSP. Hope to have more news about Xenon.

When I use a limiter, it's the L2.

I had the same reaction to the Elephant. What settings have you found useful?

The setting I use is: EL-1 Faster Shape:0.0254 R Shape0.69 Please donate all royalty payments to: The Greater New York Transient Mission 111111 Bowery New York, NY 11111

Interesting, the EL1 mode (and AIGC) iirc was what was only available in Elephant v1 - and I really disliked it when I demoed that early version as I could generally hear audible and to me unpleasant pumping with it, and found my other options that I had then (mainly RML Labs Levelizer) were preferable. It wasn't until the later version with the EL3 algorithm that it seemed like Elephant offered marked improvement over other options I had. Best regards, Steve Berson

Gold wrote on Sat, 13 October 2007 17:01 | The output ceiling doesn't seem to work corretly with 4x oversampling. If I set the ceiling to 0 the peak level comes out somewhere beween -.5 to -.7. If I set the output ceiling to +.2 or.3 the peak level comes out at -.2 or .3. Anyone know why this is?

Paul - I just did some testing - seems with the Voxengo Elephant the EL1 mode does not handle output ceiling settings correctly in 4x oversampling - but the EL3 mode does. Best regards, Steve Berson

Thanks Steve. I guess I should report the bug. It figures I'd like the broken one.

Maybe it's the reason for the updated algorithm options? i.e. maybe he tried to fix it but the easier solution was just to code a new mode without the problem instead of spending hours tracking down a bug? Best regards, Steve Berson

With Elephant, I've found out that EL2 set to fast or medium speeds works sometimes well with A/D -clipped material. Just for a dB or 1,5dB's. This is what I seem to use most often now - if I add some limiting after clipping.

IIRC EL-2 was soft. It sounds like you go hard then soft. I do soft then hard. Sorry for the poor choice of words.

Exactly!
I think I can get a nice balance with it when I want to add a tad of squashing to the sound. Not much, just a little.
That being said, I've been meaning to test out a few limiters soon, but I hate downloading and installing demos.
Maybe I should just build a pair of cables with 1N4148's connected back-to-back.

The EL-1 mode to me sounds like the lower mids are a little more prominent when the limiter hits, but that it softens the initial transient, and that the transients are a little more intact in EL-3 mode (which to me sounds like it thins the lower mids a little more than the EL-3 when the limiter is hit). Just some impressions. Best regards, Steve Berson

The L2 works if you want the L2 'sound', very popular for some styles of music. Choose a limiter that suits the project, they all have their strengths. The Weiss DS-1 is one of the most transparent that I use for most projects.
