do you use noise reduction at 15ips?
i've never used it....nor wanted to really.
i switch between 30 and 15 and can never really decide which i like better.
thoughts?

Honestly I try and stay away from noise reduction for more than one reason.
Firstly, If I want such a "clean" sound , I would probably print to some kind of digital format. I find at 15IPS 1/4" has a really cool fat grainy sound.
1/2 inch 30 IPS is just a great standard for mw for everything ..also it really believe in a well maintained well aligned Ampex deck over just about anything.
Mike Spitz at (name of Company) does a cool modern electronics upgrade.
1" 15 or 30 is very fat but actually has more crosstalk than 1/2" 30 IPS
all in all tape is the way for me to get my recordings on to tape since they have never seen it since basically everything I do these days is straight into Pro tools.
As far as noise reduction, I have never really found that I like the sound of it...for me ....AND I have been bitten in the butt by it when I was forced to use due to the request of the producer. A really good SR alignment can be tricky and making sure that the units are setup correctly dictates whether your mixes are going to get in AND OUT correctly at mastering
It is just to big a variable for me. I do not like to test fate since I was bitten big time by it a long time ago and had to master from a shitty DAT safety master ...
