Thanks for the review, Tom - your findings mirror what I've heard every day for the five years I've used the 802s (though mine are the now discontinued Nautilus range, different than the new Diamond range). I suggest anyone hearing strange anomalies from the 802s (as posted in this thread, iirc) are hearing room issues and not speaker issues...

I keep thinking I'll sell my 802s and just get a set of Matrix and put the loot into something else. Then I listen to the 802 and realize there is no way I would let them go. Only excepting a pair of 800s!

You may want to listen to the 802s with the amp you are intending to use. I thought the Classe amps at the store were awesome. I have a Bryston 4BSST working well here too.

Is anyone out there using a Class D amp with 802s? Any reports?
