sad day for yankee fans. i wasn't alive when he was a player, but my old man had stories about seeing him on the field when he was little. always loved listening to his broadcasts on TV.

Holy Cow! that's sad. I grew up listening to Phil and Bill White on the radio and TV. Class acts, great broadcasters. A Yankee game didn't seem right without the pair even though Phil had some amazing partners though the years. I'll never forget the call on Chris Chambliss' game and American League Championship winning homer in 1976......still gives me goose bumps.

RIP Scooter. I'm a Mets fan but I always loved listening to him.

A few favorite stories:
His broadcast partner Bill White looked over at his scorecard and asked what "WW" stood for. Phil said "wasn't watching!"

I loved his Hall of Fame induction speech. A real rambling, stream of consciousness Rizzuto classic. "We were taking the train down South and we stopped to get those...um...HEY WHITE!- whaddaya call those little fried things?"

He was one of the true voices of baseball. Holy cow, he will be missed.
