Welcome and Hello - repsonses
« on: April 21, 2004, 10:57:52 PM »

John,
   Good to see you here.
For all you new readers, Mr K, if asked intellegently, will reveal all you need to know about many obscure, but very useful gear related topics. I thought I knew a lot about vintage gear, but I've learned loads reading past Klett posts. Even though I'm not a tech, I somehow manage to stay up late reading your reports about the variations in Trident console power supplies......go figure.

Phew! Made it here...

John, I didn't get a chance to thank you for your comments re: the power transformer/spare parts for a Sony APR-5000 on the old forum. I had to take off to visit my young son for a few days. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll keep an eye on the gear listings for a 2nd hand unit. In the meantime I've found someone local who'll rewind it for me.

thanks,

John-

Aside from all the other things I just learned about you in your last couple of posts, I discover that you are a Pyramix user! VERY glad to hear that as I think a lot of that platform and am glad to find the PMX user base spreading as time passes.

What do you use it for? What is the main gig you do on it (if there is any pattern)? Thanks!

Hey! - on rewinding transformers...

There are kinds of specialists around who can do specific rebuild and restoration work for you, motor rebuilders, meter rebuilders and so on.  If you find someone who does a good job rewinding you power transformer (or whatever) for you please should post the information here...  In your case other people in Australia can see it and benefit.

For those of you reading this who were not visiting the recpit forums - I am told that the data is not lost...  I think it is supposed to be made searchable somehow...  we shall see.

I've been using it for surround repupose/remixing and mastering work - stereo mastering as well.

The studio has been down for two months - bad water leak no gear hit but most of the walls and treatments had to be redone - but I'll be back in the saddle in a few more weeks.

It's a great system

Thanks John

That gave me a clearer idea of, what is going on in here. I think it will be a drop by once in a while place for me. I am mostly doing stuff digital - I just cut the fan in my ADA converter, but that is hardly a very techy thing to do. I am glad to know such place exists. Interesting subject, but it all takes time Smile
