The Chinese have the contract to build the new MG's. Bad news....AND you'll soon be getting barraged by ads for the new Chinese "Chery" mid-size. New models in 2008.

Ah, but they may be shipping them back to the UK for the finishing.
Its where they'll 'spray' them with EBE (the Essence of British Engineering)

The funny thing is that some of the best Rovers (600 series) from about 10 years ago were actually Honda Accords with walnut trim. The car manufacturing business is such a mongrel!

At least my 40 year old Humber is what it is, through and through, rust and all.

As some of you know, I import electronics and mics from,,,,China.
A little over a year ago, I put together a group buy, only to be informed (after the buy from a former poster here who is from China) that this company paid their employees next to nothing and was a sweat shop. I ceased doing business with them. This former poster informed me of another manufacturer who is very good to their workers, and the quality shows. Somehow, as Rodney says, "we're going to have to try to get along" Look where most if not all our memory comes from, "Tiwan". When their big earthquake hit, I needed memory and had to pay thru the nose to get it. It seems like there are too many eggs in one basket, and in this fragile world with so much tension, if we lose one basket, we lose all the eggs in that basket

Chance, while I know this was not the reason you mentioned it there is a  BIG difference between Taiwan and China. Taiwan AFAIK is not providing much support to the Sudanese government nor is it a big enough player on the world stage to have much influence.

The point is alternatives tend to arise when there is an economic drive for them. Japan's auto and electronics industry success was a response to American automakers and electronics companies not providing reliable and affordable alternatives. Korea's auto industry  and electronics companies success was a response to Japanese cars and electronics getting more expensive. Now it is China.

If the Chinese feel the heat they will respond or some other poor and hungry country will give them a run for their money.

I too want to "get along" but that does not mean I must buy from Chinese manufacturers thoughtlessly when their government contributing to what can really only be described as evil.

Let's do what we reasonably can folks.
