I have been jocking this record ferociously. I just read a new interview in which I learned that they did the whole thing at home in Cubase. Mercy me. It really is hot though.

But more on topic: when will this whole "big dick drum sounds" thing just GO AWAY?

It's really just a pain in the balls.

errr, When 80%+ of the rock listening public stops loving them?

Just like big guitars.

I laughed my way through the "guitars are dead" years a while back.

It was just a crude way of stating the seemingly obvious (but not) concept that the "biggest drums possible" is not necessarily always a desirable outcome.

On that Dungen record for example... If that was a pro job, likely it would be perfectly balanced throughout and it would be complete C 'n B. Their previous record was in fact, like that.

The moments on it where the guitar solos completely obliterate the entire rhythm section are awesome. The mix is a little overly enthusiastic in spots. Some whiny drummer in the back of the room constantly demanding more drums would have killed the vibe.

I'm glad someone replied to this, it's my favorite album of '04.  God it's good.  You never heard nothin til you heard ta det lungt.

To be fair, Arcade Fire's record is totally awesome too.
