pres & conversion -help for home studio
« on: July 07, 2007, 12:03:52 AM »

I really appreciate any help here...

I have a universal audio 2-610 pre (w/telefunken 12ax7 tubes)
...going into lucid a/d 9624  (out of d/a 9624)

FWIW: going into a rme 9652 - to nuendo 3 - mix to 2 track otari mx5050 and then back into Nuendo.

"Problem is" ...I now need more inputs (drum tracking etc.)

I've been considering...
getting the mackie onyx 8800r and running into the Lucid via lightpipe as the solution I can "kinda afford" which would give me 10 inputs in total.

I've now also been considering...
selling the uad 2-610 .........(very smooth but I might be better served w/ another pre that's more ? I dunno, aggressive but clear, also w/ headroom that would be good for my aea r84 ribbon...as lately I've reached for my symetrix sx202 even OVER the uad as it has a bit more of a clean headroom)

Which could put me in a position ($ wise from selling the 2-610) to still get the mackie onyx (for more inputs) and possibly the great river nv1 or 2 to use going into the Lucid's....OR........?????

MUCH THANKS if anyone can suggest anything else.
Trying to start on recording a new ep in a week or so.

FWIW, I think the Mackie Onyx digital outputs for each strip are pre-EQ.

I don't think the 800r has any eq, or am I missing something?

Ah, it's the rackable version then, eh?  Sorry. Nevermind.  I was thinking of the mixer.

yeah, the mackie onyx 800r...w/ 8 pre's and conversion.

I'm going to stick w/ the universal audio 2-610 into the lucid a/d into the rme sound card, and try to decide on the mackie or ?  for 8 more inputs via light pipe.

If anyone has any other suggestions I appeciate it.
