The contact needle is gold plated, and it and its mating surfaces- two tightly spaced, gold-plated wires, are self-cleaning with every removal/insertion of the capsule head. So I doubt that yours woudl be the first case ever, where thses surfaces have failed to conduct.

Yet, it's a good idea to wipe the needle with pure isopropyl alcohol and remove any accumulation of schmutz; afterwards, you should wipe some Caig Pro-Gold over the needle, to guarantee good contact for a long time.

Hello,

Klaus can you recommend anything similar to "Caig Pro-Gold" which I can purchase in Germany or Austria? I couldn't find Caig Pro-Gold over here.

Thanks in advance,
Peter Linde

Hi Peter,

please forgive me for not being Klaus... but just to be helpful...

http://www.crceurope.com/csp/web/ProdDisp.csp?country=AT& ;product=KONTAKT%20GOLD%202000&brand=KOC&lng=4

I've used it for years and have faith in all their sprays I've tried.

Unclear how these two product lines compare- most of this stuff is proprietary in nature.

Just for fun, you could write Caig Labs and ask whether they have a European distributor. But, who knows, maybe the CRC-Products are as as good or better than Caig Pro-Gold for preserving plated contacts?

Hi Klaus,

Caig distributors are here:

 http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.15/category.112/ctype.SS/SS.11 2/.f

also useful is the link for the original German-made Cramolin sprays: http://www.itwcp.de/en/index.html

Best regards,

Thank you all.

Which one would you recommend for the KM84 needle?

http://store.caig.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.292/.f

I think I'll order it straight from the Caig store.

It seems they have changed the name from "ProGold" to "DeoxIT GOLD".

Which one would you recommend?

"Part No. G5S-6", "Part No. GN5S-6N" or "Part No. G100S-2"?

Or is it all the same as it seems?

Thank you,

Peter

I use the small, concentrated oil-like liquid in a bottle with a thin tube extension on it: DeoxIT

Has anyone used a KMS84, and how does that perform in relation to a KM-84?

Terry

I have had limited time with a KM84 and have owned a KMS84i for years.  I never did a direct comparison between the two, but my memory says this.  The KMS is a nice sounding mic that works well for handheld vocals, although, not very bright, and can work well for a spot mic.  I have used both on snare and thought the KM to be better (my KMS had less highs).  They are similar in sound but the pop screen on the KMS, and some eq in the curcuit, seems to preclude it as a direct replacement for the KM84.  That being said, I love my Kms, and use it all the time.  My Schoeps do well enough so I don't feel the need to get a pair of the KM84s, (although, you never know, that may change) Very Happy
