No fishing advice from here but the way I see it if you keep pouring money into that area your karma will pay off in huge ways.

THNX for the reminder, sorry yer tranny went kaput.

I'm trying to figure out how to get out in the boat this weekend which looks to be a gorgeous one.

Last week I nabbed a 35# Cobia, 30# Grouper, 20# kingfish, 10# mahi and after they all went in the box I had a blast wrestling with some 30-40# Amberjack and Barracuda on the fly rod. it was good to be fishing for fun instead of fun/money.

<must fix anchor light so i can take the family out for an evening cruise>

I'm coming to your house!Very Happy

I try to put all I can into that economy. That was my first ride down Beach Blvd.  Shocked

I've spent my time on the other side of the bay. Again. Shocked

I did have an idea. Michael Vick would make some good cut bait.

I've found that since reds typically travel in schools of similar age/size, the best thing to do when you latch into a bunch of little guys it to move... go to plan b, or c, or...

i went fishing every day when i was working in arnhem land

over there, the regular catfish are usually given to the dogs (or crocs, they reckon, when you look into a croc's mouth it's full of catfish stingers... i don't know, i never tried)

i used to go out and throw a net, which would pick up dozens of small catfish, which then become livebait for one of these:

however, if you don't get one of these, you can eat them fried whole like whitebait

Saltwater Cats are shite. And.....just as poisonous as freshwater Bullheads, but they won't bite you like a snap-vise. Had many a blue thumbnail from grabbing these guys.

Before I went vegetarian (what a pussy, I know), southern fried cornmeal catfish was possibly my all-time favorite meal on planet Earth.

There is a place here in Seattle that makes it, on MLK and Cherry I think.

In LA, there is a place on Venice Blvd between labrea and LaCienega on the north side of the street.

Both make great catfish.

Catching it is only half the battle, then you need some Cheffin' skillz.

Fish is a vegetable, is it not?  My wife attended a meeting at which the "vegetarian" meal option was salmon.

Couldn't agree more. Down South, obviously Catfish is the Holy Grail of restaurant freshwater fish. That said, there is nothing worse than badly cooked catfish.

I get weird looks all the time, because I catch and eat White Bass. Some call 'em Stripers. Not true Striped Bass of course. Anything can be tasty if preparred properly.

Hey Nick and Jay. Off topic, but if you wanna try a fried catfish/anything recipe, try my father-in-law's recipe. THE best catfish I've ever had. Fry it up however you want (I prefer hot and quick) and then smoke it heavy over Pecan Wood for 20-30 minutes. I like Apple Wood smoke too.

It draws the grease out and although I like it, it pulls out some fishyness(sic?).

Time for a recipe thread!

.......I really prefer my fish raw.

Same here., but I don't think I could stomach raw catfish. Laughing

I got myself started after posting last night.  I'm smoking some ribs (marinated all night) and white bass together as I type. Should be ready in a 3-4 hours. Surprised

Any other fishermen out there?

Uh, that would be a yes.

Thought this might interest you. Went "Juggin'" this weekend on Puskus Lake. The first catch was this Albino Cat. I've only seen one in a museum. Pretty exciting.

Must've been a good luck catch because myself and the neighbors have a freezer full of perfect size fillets.

That's something I've always wanted to do. Looks like a blast. Never caught a Tarpon.

We'll if your ever down my way, give me a shout... It's about equivalent to throwing a grappling hook onto a freight train and holding on for dear life!

Missed a ton of fishing this summer due to my studio construction, but a few weeks back I found the time to head out.

Found a little spot down the road where these suckers like to hang out (black drum)...

9 on the line in about 2 hrs time... only two made it to the boat.
