Advice on laptop recording system
« on: June 04, 2007, 07:47:22 PM »

I am wanting to get a laptop recording setup going and although I have been doing lots of research, I still am pretty lost due to all the options and stuff. I am currently using a Korg D3200 and a Roland VS-1680, but have heard so many good things about Computer based recording systems I figured I better get in on it. So far I was wanting to go the pro tools route and am interested in running some virtual synthesizer plug ins. I don't even know whether I should go Mac or PC, can anybody help me out and guide me to enlightenment? I was wanting to stay under the $2000 range.

personally i would get the biggest, best mac book pro you can, and pick up a used Mbox or 002 to get into pro tools.  you can buy plugs as time passes and money frees up.

the nice thing about PT is that you can become compatible with most of the larger studios in your area.  so if you ever wanted to do some tracking or even mixing, you could utilize their rigs with very little difficulties.
