I've found Skype to be pretty good.  Course, most people using these voice chat programs are using those little dinky plastic mics you buy at Wal-Mart for 2$.

If anyone does not know it, check out Gizmo Project.

Competitor to Skype.

I have found them extremely good, especially when using the Logitech USB headset/mic.

Buy minutes cheap for calling any phone in the world.

I took an old cordless phone and rigged the base to have minijacks for a soundcard so I can Skype and walk around like a normal human.

But Linksys has a handset now, bastards.

I just tried "Gizmo" on the PC and it works great, but when I tried it on the G-4, when I log in. I get a message stating that are "no audio input devices are currently available"
On the G-4 there is a mini jack for mic in, and I am assuming it is "TS" because I have seen computer mics that are TRS. Anyone know?

Does anyone know if on the MAC G-4 (power MAC) the 2 audio jacks in the rear are they line level? I normally don't use these. I us a FW for audio. For this chat thing, I plugged a mic into the audio in (in the rear of the G-4 and get nothing. My thoughts are that it might be line level which would require a preamp. For voice chat I can't see getting a mic pre of the type we use for recording but would like to find an alternative. Maybe a USB mic like the TnC ACM-510? (LOL)

Man,,, I have been using "Gizmo project" for a week now and it's the best. I have called China and the quality is amazing. In many cases it's better than land lines. This is now my "go to" for all long distance calls. It works for computer to computer as well as computer to land lines and cell phones. BUT WAIT,,, THERES MORE,,! IT's FREE! You can elect to pay a small per minute charge for other perks too.

I only wish I could walk around instead of being tied by a cable to the computer.

Yup.  I use Gizmo all the time.  Beats Skype handily.  But don't tell anyone, because then it may get too busy and go downhill...

Chance, I use the Logitech USB mic/headset, and it works very well.  No line/mic-in stuff.

Best regards.
