Unusual concert hall
« on: May 02, 2007, 09:26:42 AM »

Anyone ever recorded or performed in a place like this?

http://www.dezeen.com/2007/04/15/la-philharmonie-de-paris-2/ #more-1751

I'm curious if there were some acoustic consideration going into this, or if the designer got to overrule good sound.

I have no idea, but those curvy cloud thingies look like some of the auditorium treatments I've seen at the RPG web site.

Looks like it has several similarities to Denver's Beotcher Concert Hall - asymetry, audience behind the stage, lots of clouds. A thoroughly shitty place to hear music.

Beautiful.  Reminds me in some ways of the Disney hall In LA, a truly wonderful place to hear music.

This is what we call a vineyard hall.
The classic vineyard is the berlin phil hall.
Other good halls include Toyota's designs in Copenhagen (Danish Radio) and LA (Disney Hall) and Kirkegaards design in the new hall being built in Atlanta.
Along with the classic shoebox of musikverein they are the two standard shapes of good symphonic halls.

Thomas,
the reason this hall may strike you as odd is that unfortunately there are no such halls in sweden.
The only one in scandinavia is the new hall in copenhagen.
These halls are spectacular to record in and the best average experience for the concertgoer as you have much better contact with the orchestra than you would in the back of a shoebox.

Thanks for some input on this subject.. I think a lot of us myself included, just didn't know what we were looking at, although I think it's quite beautiful.... If it also sounds great, well... that's just a bonus! Thanks again for the insight!
