When does this crappy-ass Bruckheimer movie of imperial sunset end, again? Because it’s really stupid. By the way, I’m sure he uses the C-17 for security purposes. But seriously, the fact that he needs to travel with a small army anywhere he goes in the world doesn’t make it any easier not to see him as, well, what he is. … to elaborate on that last point, on some proximal level it’s sensible to have a mobile passenger cabin if you have to take a C-17 everywhere. Why does he have to take a giant military cargo vessel? Because he has to bring a small army of doctors, and a small army of, you know, soldiers, just to keep him alive. It’s so dangerous for him, in fact, that he can’t ride in a regular Air Force plane like a regular dignitary and meet them there. They have to hit the ground rolling in their armored limos. Then! Just to top that, and even without ever mentioning the name of his plane, he picks a custom airstream trailer to travel in. That’s iconography worthy of the finest propagandists in history. That’s white, middle American signification on a grand scale. It must be like the promise of fifties America descending upon you, guns bristling, to reassert its favored order on the world by force. Who but a power-mad monomaniac could possibly think to travel in such a thing? What does he need, a monocle? The guy wants to be a supervillain.
