Too funny. Me and my buddy were always looking for a way to get a vibraslap into a song. Vibraslap solo !

But seriously, back to the tambourine...

The best tambourine I've recorded was an old, severely beat up plastic pos with 3/4 of the metal missing. The little bit of "wind-up, jingle" leading to the thwap is just part of the charm imho. I loved that sound so much I sampled/archived it and keep it handy.

I know of no effective way to mechanically dampen all the jingles.

There's this new digital way...

IMO, the best percussion instrument is an acoustic guitar.

Yes.

Except, of course, the vibraslap.
Where would "Sweet Emotion" be without it?

I had originally thought that the Vibraslap sounded like two skulls knocking together. And somehow my favorite guitarists could play 10 guitar parts at the same time on recordings. The things we learn along the way....

I can't tell the brand, because where the logo might be I have some tape, and I'm not taking it off!

I get the feeling alot of your gear has tape on it. Is this some kind of superstitious thing? Will it help my performance?

I thought only guitar players did this.

I have the feeling that I have more experience in my little finger than you do in your whole body about audio electronics..

I know the feeling. I'm sweating here profusely with no shirt on. The beer gets sent out my pores as quickly as I drink it. The humidity here is crazy, in the last few days, it feels like it's +40 (104 Fahrenheit) with the humidity. I still refuse to put my window air conditioner in though. I don't like the difference in temperatures....eventually I have to go back out into hell.

That's why I have tape on all my digital gear.  Especially my ipod when I'm walking to work at minus 40 below!
