I have an alarm.
I have the police.
I have my rational expectations as to the LIKLIHOOD of such an occurrence.

and I have an understanding that the odds of being injured with a gun go up dramatically in households that own them.
including them being turned on the owner in break ins into those houses.

your house been broken into?
fight them off with your gun?

the statistics DON'T support that idea.

sure makes people feel TOUGH though.

Walt, you must live on Lollipop Lane, down the road from Gumdrop Falls. I've tried to get away from this one, but this takes the cake.

I can agree with you that anyone who has a gun in the home SOLELY for protection, probably doesn't know how to use the thing properly anyway. Very dangerous.

so on the one hand you imply I "need" a gun to protect my home, and yet you sya the that if I have one "SOLELY for protection"...

so it's really NOT about "protection:
it's about liking guns.

FWIW I live in NY

if it's more dangerous where you live, maybe you should move to NY.

The gun is not to protect personal property, that is what insurance is for, the gun is to protect me, the sole provider for my family.

and yet, AGAIN the irrefutable evidence is that you are MORE likely to be killed with a gun if you own one.

I grew up as a son of a career military officer but we never had a firearm in the house. My one and only experience with a gun was in college, when a buddy and I drove home to Texas and went "hunting" on his family's back forty. He was a world champion skeet shooter, and I felt some pressure to participate. He urged me to shoot a blue jay (a criminal offense I later learned) and I felt TERRIBLE after killing that bird and have not handled a gun since. My late wife acquired a rather formidable Glock handgun after she was victim of a very violent crime, but I insisted she keep it locked up and out of my sight. I hope it made her feel more secure.

No problem,

Glad to be of assistance.

Max, if someone wants to live their life like an old, fat superstituos grandma....great!

If they want to wear a seatbelt....great!

If statistics like the one cited apply to them....great!

If they find the media informative on how to conduct their personal affairs and how to live their life....let them have at it!

I am not trying to clear things up, I am giving you my opinion...

I sir,

am a dumbass...

lemme nough...

here's a statistic:

if you have a gun in your home, you are FIVE times more likely to have a "successful" suicide in your house than if you don't

most of these are teenage boys

sure, it's not the gun that kills people, but it does make it easier...
