Samplitude question ?
« on: April 03, 2007, 10:38:07 AM »

Hello,

i guess there are some users here who master using
samplitude or Sequoia.

I like to have an analog insert inbetween digital vst plugins in
a channel.
Example: EQ Red, analog i/0 , Elephant

like in Logic or Wavelab where you can choose and swap the
position where the analog insert (i/o) is inserted.

I tried a demo of Samplitude 8.1 and cannot find a function like
i explained or like in Logic od Nuendo. It is only possible to
route the output of a fader to an physical output and using an
other channel to insert it back again. also with aux sends it´s not
what i am looking for and not flexible enough.

Am i overlooking something or is it just not possible ?
any help weould be great

thanks

I believe version 9.2 will allow analog inserts.. with delay compensation even, but i don't know the full implementation right now, as far as fx order.
Might be worth a trip to the Samp / Seq forum

Hi Husky,

thanks for your reply. I just read an review in the german
"Studio Magazin" of Seq. 9.2. They also wrote that it is
not possible. Magix decided to go another way. So you have to
insert the output of your chain in a new channel. Seq/Sam.
auto detects the latency and correct that.
I mean that is great but not what i need/want.

I got two analog chains and usually i like to master two
tracks for example a1 & a2 at the same time, comparing them
and cutting them on lacquer afterwards. so i need a bit more
flexibility like i have in Logic audio.
This program i really to old and i am looking for an alternative
on PC because on the mac platform i am missing some plugs i need.

That's the benefit using of ProTools, love it or hate it. Sequoia is just lacking a few essential work flow features such as hardware inserts. Otherwise a fantastic program for everything else.

Yeah, but isn't it just a matter of creative routing?

can't you set up 4 tracks instead of 2, in Seq. and record, or leave on input, the 2 tracks with the analog processing returns?

i used to use Altiverb on my G5 all the time - while mixing in Sequoia, before it was available on the PC.
i'd have outputs 3-4 set up to go to the Altiverb on the G5.. outputs 5-6 set up to go to Logic for it's Leslie or the Ringshifter.. and then record the fx into Seq. and use a quick key command to shift the new audio back in time with the song.

and what - if you don't mind me asking - are the analog processors you are using?

hmm,

i am just too lasy for this in mastering and don´t see a reason
to change from Logic to Sam. to have a slower and more complicated workflow. I am changing my signal chain quite often. so it i have to route again and again and...every day 50 times.
ProTools is not supporting VST afaik. so it is out of my view.
Will try Nuendo next. I guess there are not so many other options,

Hi John,

thanks but this is not flexible enough.

I like to have a VST or direct X plugin which works like an insert.
Send out stereo audio to my AES32 output and receives back what was
going thru the analog chain back on my AES32 input. and then processes further in the channel.

have to look for a plug like this.

Well, that got me thinking. (I love these little puzzles)

You should be able to set up a loop with Senderella (VST only). It's free.

This would go something like:

Main track -
Insert Senderella, Channel 1. Set to Send & Relay
Insert Senderella, Channel 2. Set to Receive & Thru

2nd (aux) track -
Insert Senderella, Channel 1. Set to Receive & Thru.
Route track to external out

3rd (aux) track -
External in.
Insert Senderella, Channel 2. Set to Send & Relay.

This second Senderella should route the signal back to your main track, so that you can insert your Elephant after that.

It's a little tedious to set up, but if it works you have a nice template, and you can forget about the other tracks (as in, ignore them)

regards
Rogier

edit- btw you can copy the dll and rename to something like Send1 and Send2. It's easier to keep track that way and you won't have to set channels

I use 2 tracks in 1 VIP -
1st track for playback of file and contains any VST plugs that I need. Output of that track is routed to Dig out of soundcard which then goes to D/A, thru outboard gear, to A/D and then back to DAW via Dig input of soundcard. 2nd track is set to receive signal from Dig input of soundcard and contains other VST processing such as limiter. Output of track 2 is set to Master buss for monitoring thru Analog output of soundcard.

I've recently added another track in which I place a copy of the mix and route it to the analog output of the soundcard for easy A/B of original vs. mastered version.

Will that setup work for you?

thanks for this info, i was looking for something like that. i mean usually one plug should be enough (as a insert point) but
this gonna works perhaps.

Hi J,

yes this works but i like to be a bit more flexible "where" i insert my "analog chain". don´t like to have it always on the output of a channel. but anyway it is possible to copy or move
other plugins to channel 2 then to change the order.

i will try that out too.

anyway i like to have a good overwiew. as i am doing "disk mastering" i have two analog chains, usually there are often two tracks on a side of vinyl so i can master them parallel and
try/testcut them, changing setting etc. so i would have in total
4 channels + eventually more. it could be easier..

in logic audio this is possible but for PCee the old Version 5.5.1 is no longer supported and have problems with a lot of new plugs. and on Mac there are no Algorythmix and some other plugs i like.

greetings

andreas

what ? no mixgroups, hopefully aux busses. have to check that.
ProTools would be ok if it would support VST and DX on PC.
otherwise useless for me. don´t like to pay extra money for
PT versions of plugins.
