Any thoughts on the LMNOpre?
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:51:33 AM »

I've got a Great River MP-1NV and an Old School Audio rack.

I love the GR, and like the Old School a lot, though it's a bit low in gain.

But I've been looking for something else to pair with the GR, and the LMNOpre caught my eye.

Any descriptions on how it sounds, or how it would compare tonally to the GR or Old School?

I'll probably have to sell the Old School to finance it, so that is one thing I'm keeping in mind.

I have found the LMNOPre to be a LOT clearer than either the OSA or the Great River... but with the ability to add low frequency resonance it can get HUGE sounding.  I have also found that when using it on vocals I can back the singer off the mic a bit, even in "Omni" pattern and still get something that approximates the low end I like from the proximity effect of using a cardioid pattern mic... on Kik drum the "phase knob" has taken me to a new place at times.

I can't even begin to start foaming properly over how much I love this tool!!

I was happy to see it's price, 'til I realized it was for one channel. Not that it ain't worth it, but I'll have to wait a while longer before getting a pair.

And what does he mean by, "Limited Edition"?

It's looking pretty tempting to me, since it does the phase alignment stuff, and has nice DI in there, and the pre.

But I'm not sure I want to part with the Old School to get it. What else can I sell..... Smile
