If you told me that "I took the car to the mechanic and he said the engine was dead", the first thing you would ask is: what exactly does he mean? Block cracked? Distributor cable from the coil fell off? Why does he want to replace the complete engine and all its (repairable/replaceable) sub-pcomponents?
Same with mics: did you get a detailed trouble report from MG that identified why the capsules (both of them, to boot!) can no longer work properly?
I am always incredulous when I hear generalized terms like "dead" in conjunction with complex machinery, because, too often the term hides repairable issues which are either beyond the service technician's capabilities to fix, or which don't make him enough money, compared to selling you new stuff.
