IMPs
« on: March 20, 2007, 05:09:25 PM »

I realize this forum is basically "indie rock" but it's the only one on this site offering help/guidance in mixing in the form of actual practice by way of the IMPs.

so here's my Q: is it possible or even desirable to seek out submissions that include electronic parts for future IMPs?

my music includes as many electronic parts as non-electronic but it's basically rock. I want to learn to mix what I write and it seems to me the challenges are different to that of a purely non-electronic rock song (guitar/bass/drums). am I correct?

Sounds good to me...

But, I would also be interested in mixing some actual "indie rock" LOL

Most of the stuff has been pretty straight forward "rock"

Maybe  something along the lines of the Black Keys

I haven't participated in an IMP since you changed to a mix down the tracks format, but that's due to my ability to do things quickly with my current schedule, not a problem with IMP.  IMP has evolved into an awesome thing.

I keep listening from the cheap seats and will participate one of these days.  The variety of music, differences in methods, and wide variety of results has been enjoyable to listen to.

2 thumbs up from the sidelines!

On a slightly different slant,

A long time ago, (and I mean a L - O - N - G time ago!) you threw out the idea of mixing without any compression.  Not just mastering compression, ANY compression.

That would be interesting.

(And I'd love to see you sit and squirm as you mix without beating the crap out of something, anything, with a compressor!)

he he he - ho ho ho - HA HA HA!!!!!....... MuWAHAHAHA!
