SXSW?
« on: February 06, 2007, 05:49:43 PM »

People are preparing for SXSW around here.  Bands hoping to be notified that they're "in."  Promoters pushing showcases.  Everyone trying to come up with money and a bed to sleep on.

Anyone from round these parts (meaning: this website) going?  Want to meet up?

My band should be down there...I'm not 100% sure when we're scheduled, but we'll be there.  As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.

i live in austin, and have played in it a few times. that being said, it's all about the daily parties! Almost all the bands I want to see will play one free party or another during the day. there's almost always free beer, sometimes there is free food. there is an excel list that floats around locally, i'll see if i can track it down.

a band im producing got in. I wont be there but if you interested go check out The Gay Blades. great band. Normally a 2 piece, but i think they're bringing a friend of mine to play bass. just an fyi in case they have something to sell, the record is nowhere near as stripped down.

another band i know that i *think* is going is The Parlor Mob. sick sick band. Once everyone started listening to wolfmother thats what they got compared to, but they're waaay better. The guitarists are amazing and the singer is like a young robert plant.

ok advertisement done. Very Happy

Cheap plug:

My brother's band Aloha has played many a SXSW, but it looks like they're skipping it this year...

However, they are in Austin at Emo's on Feb 26th.

Did I mention they're really really good?

It's upon us.

If you're in Austin next week, stop by BD Riley's sometime on Wednesday, noon to 5:30pm.  We're throwing a little party:

Love to meet some of you in person.

Wear a yellow rose in your lapel, so I can know who you are.

My boss mastered the Scottish Showcase CD this year. I did it last year.

Some good stuff on there as well. And some not so good stuff.... Rolling Eyes

More shameless plugs:

Check out Ladyhawk if you can, they're great and I've been lucky enough to play a few shows with them:

Also, one of my favorite clients (Meric Long/The Dodos) will be there too:

Haven't seen the Gay Blades yet, but I'll second the recommendation to see the P. Mob. Great band on the rebound from a bad management fiasco.  Also check out Nicole Atkins.  She and her band have really developed a cool sound.  Heard her upcoming full length recently and it's a head turner.
