To be able to use the M269 with the already established power supply and polarisation voltage designs for other AC701- equipped tube mics used in German broadcast studios in the 1960s, this mic was equipped with a pattern switch modified from the 'omni', 'cardioid' and 'figure eight' settings used on its close relative, the U67.
The modification consisted of the usual 'cardioid' setting in the middle, and two "F" settings, where the omni and figure eight would be located on a U67. "F" stands for "Fernsteuerung" = remote control of patterns from the power supply, like it was done on the then widely used M49 broadcast mic.
An ingenius feature of the M269 pattern switch design: in 'cardioid' the rear capsule half is physically and electrically disconnected from the circuit by the pattern switch, yielding an extra 4dB of s/n.
