Sometimes I have a slight issue with the word "FAST" in the thread title, because I do believe in driving safety,

That is so true. When I built the car I took it out to the Tustin Marine base where they had a long air strip and a CHP officer clocked me at 140 MPH (in 4th gear of 5 in a Pantara ZF transaxle)
After that I rarely went over 60 when I would drive it. There was something in just knowing that it was fast, that gave me my jollies and save the car to drive another day.

Guys, the thread is "for those who appreciate a FAST car" because that's what my post was about.  A "good" car or "safe driving" can be a new thread.  I was only interested in relating that the Bugatti is a very fast car.

Of course I have appreciated all the humor/weirdness that followed.

Then I won't mention that I once got a ticket for driving 146 in a 55 zone.  I would be embarrased to let that out.

Is that kilometers p/h? I have you beat! My license was revoked 8 years, +103 in a 55.

I am proud of it! It was perfectly safe, and I paid the piper.

yeah, yeah, yeah ..... Try 135 MPH on a motorcycle sometime... That is a bit of a rush.  The bike could have gone faster but my body was becoming airborne

I will never do that again ...lol

PS: Terry, I used to love those old 60's muscle car/luxury autos too...  had a 1960 Caddy that could do 130+, 64 New Yorker, 64 Buick etc.... They could "lay rubber" for blocks They don't make em like that any more (thank gawd)

Man... now I feel like the Thread Nazi.

I just didn't want people to start saying all kinds of "good and safe driving" stuff that we all know.  Please talk about your speeding tickets and building your own cars.  Just don't talk safety for it's own sake! (Did I really say that??).

Speeding: I can't compete -- the worst I ever did was 70 in a 45.

State Trooper story:

Flashing police lights and headlights from the car behind me.  It's a state trooper pulling me over on I-64.  It's 10:30 at night.

I hate this bullshit, and I hate being 'talked down to' whenever an officer looks down at me seated behind the wheel, so I get out of my car and lean against it.

ST pulls up behind me and approaches.

ST: Sir, do you know you were speeding?
Me: Yes, sir I was.
ST: Do you know you were tail-gating?
Me: Yes, sir I did that too.
ST: And were you aware you were weaving in and out of lanes quickly?
Me: Yes sir.
ST: Where are you headed in such a hurry?
Me: It's been a long day.  I just got off work and I'm heading to a friend's house.  She and I are going to watch a video tape.  It's tonight's episode of "Law and Order". (That's absolutely true too!)
ST pauses for a moment.  I envision a huge ticket, jail and a huge ticket and possibly not seeing Law and Order.
ST looks at me and says:
ST: You know, we'll all live a lot longer if you stop driving like that.
And then he walks away....  I was so fuckin' angry.  He just played the dirtiest trick on me.  If he had given me a ticket or taken me to jail then I could be 'righteously' pissed.  But no, he had to be kind and let me off.  Now I have to feel guilty because he was so kind.  Even to this day I can't drive like that because of him.  God love him.

No, unfortunately, it was 146 miles per hour.

In Arkansas, on I-40, in a BMW 3.0 CS, racing against my friend's new GM thing, I think some sort of Firebird Z or something.

Paid a fine.

Will never do anything like that again.

Thats it. Now I'm starting to cry LOL. The company I hooked up with was orginally "Amore" later called "Advanced automotive technology with Jamie Palumbo and Gary Miner. That yaht builder company that now owns the design, "Nereia" made a lot of these machines. I think they are in Canada.

It's not the same thing.  Some Interstates are decent roads, but they are usually populated by bad drivers driving bad vehicles badly.  And there are speed limits.

When I did "that," I had just returned from living in Europe, and I "forgot."

I've only ever gotten one speeding ticket in my life. I was driving a mini bus in Zambia & pulled up behind a queue of cars at a roadblock. I eventually reached the front of the queue &, after exchanging pleasantries, the police officer turned all "official" & informed me that I had been speeding & ordered me out of the vehicle to pay the fine. Loneliest walk I ever made, surrounded by cops with AK-47's.

Growing up in Chicago, almost every street had signs that said "Keep to the right, except when passing", and most drivers did just that. Then I moved to Boston and none of the streets went north south  or east and west. there were angle streets everywhere, and they all met at the famous ROTERY. There were roteries everywhere Here in So Cal it's a free for all. You can be going 70 one minute, then 3mph the next. Later you find out it's all these looky-Loo's looking at the tractor-trailor truck on the oppisite side of the fwy that lost it's load of turnips. New York? You have to be on drugs to drive there. Tokyo Japan?  I wouldn't attempt it.
