Mogwai
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:28:33 AM »

Can you folks tell me some stuff about Mogwai?

I'm listening to this album, "Rock Action".

it's amazing.

Sorry to be patronizing if I categorized Mogwai as "indy rock"

Is that the last one they did? I heard some cool stuff in a friend's car a while back-- I think it was recent at that time.

By the way, can we call you a hippie since you're in Berkeley?

Kidding.

I'm in West Oakland, so you can call me a liquor store if you want. Or a hippie, I'm easy.

Mogwai are very much indie rock, don't worry about it!

Rock Action is actually the record before last (the one before Mr Beast is Happy Songs For Happy People, which is a bit more relaxed but excellent still). The best one is Young Team, even if it only included Mogwai Fear Satan. They record at Tony Doogan's (who recorded Belle & Sebastian and various other bands) studios in Glasgow. They've also worked with Steve Albini on My Father My King.

There's quite a bit of information on them here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mogwai_%28band%29

and their official site:

Yeah, they work with Tony at Cemikal Underground. It's really The Delgados studio. Tony hasn't worked with the Belles for a while AFAIK.

Think Mogwai have called it a day as well.

I'm sure it was in the press coverage for their last album. It was a year ago though, so I may be wrong, but I don't think so.

It appears I was wrong. They're scheduled to play the connect festival in late August here.
