on the other hand, the ribbons we picked up were all very useful. i wished i had picked up a pair any of the models we got in order to try overheads but alas -- we only grabbed "one of each", so.... maybe this time around i'll pick up a pair.

I agree. I have a pair of the Chinese ribbons that I bought in another group buy and they sound great. Removed the perforated metal plates and installed Cinemag transformers and they've been very useful.

OK gang, like the topic says "here we go again"
For those that don't know the drill, heres how it works: you send me an E-mail. In the subject header, put "MICROPHONES" then  in the message area state what you want. I will use those E-dresses for the Pay pal money requests (only one E-dress please) cut-off date is May 6. It's important to put "MICROPHONES" in the subject header so it will be easier to file to a seperate folder plus I can, at a glance, weed out the Viagra, work at home, and all the other trash that you are all familiar with. I use MAC and it will recognise and seperate MICROPHONES in the subject header to a dedicated folder. Pay pal has a small charge, but I will cover it for now, and add when I pack and ship to you. These will have a logo, so you will know at a glance the +side. I SEEMED TO HAVE MISPLACED THE "TnC" LOGO.   LOL   I think I accidently moved it to a folder in another drive.
Oh yeah for those few out of country folks, we'll do it like last time

Greg (or anyone else),

Were the mics you moded the same model? I plan instal new trannies as well but before I make the purchase i want to make sure these are mod-able.

Having never done a mic mod, is  a tranny switch complicated, or is it worth the $$ to have a pro do it?

Also, if you are able, how might describe the difference b/w the Cinemag and Lundhal (sp?) trannies?

Muchos Gracias!

Joe,

The mics I have look almost the same as the ACM-1. Slightly different grill. As far as I know, there are a few variations, in the grill and connectors, but they all have the same ribbon motor.

I don't think there's much point installing a switch. There isn't a huge difference in the sound with the Cinemag installed. It just sounds better.

I have no experience with other transformers in these mics. There are a few sites that offer the same mics with both options, that have more information. Shinybox is one.

Even before the mods they sounded good. Now they just sound better.

I'm ordering another pair of the ACM-1s (+ 1 for a friend), 2 pairs of the ACM-2s and a pair of ACM-3s. You really can't go wrong. 9 mics for $490 + postage.

Regards
Greg

Chance,

I've been attempting to reply to your email, but it keeps coming back saying it's been blocked by a spam filter.

The latter (and greater) quantity is the correct one.

Thanks

The only confirmation will be the request for funds from Pay Pal. I never thought there would be so many orders so this process will take a while

(but by the sounds of things this won't be a problem.... I am onboard for the next one though... (please let there be a next one...)
