one more question - the mics on your "product" page - are they units you have in stock and are selling? if so i may be interested in trying 1 or 2 - one of the ribbons i got from the first group buy i use all the time.

thanks !

Chance, I'm in this time as well.  Which ribbon would you suggest for guitars?  (Loud distorted rock amps)

PS:  Thanks for doing this!

Chance,

I'm interested too. I'm in Australia, but if you don't want to send overseas, I can get a friend in Florida to send them on.

Thanks

If anyone wants to know what is best for what, all I can say is "one mans treasure is another mans garbage" The SDC tube should have a low proximity effect, due to the porting below the capsule. Last time I had one order from Austrailia, he paid for the mic and I am still waiting for the payment for shipping. It was one ribbon mic, 5 pound package, and the shipping was $23.00, by air from here to austrailia. so you can do the math and see if it is worth the cost. The tube mics have removable tubes, and the multi pattern will still be 9 position. The varible with volt meter won't be ready in time. They were doing some show in Germany and before that, they had a 2 or 3 week holiday, so you can see, it takes a lot of time

Very interested. At this price point... a simple yes.
I've spent more on a single cable.

What's the number for critical mass, or are you moving forward no matter how many of us are down, and just checking the demand here first?

Your site could use a little more straightforward comparison lingo... This mic sounds like an older model from the rhineland that sit in the seat between seats C11 and C13...

Have you used these mics yourself?

Do not expect to get a U47 or a C12 or an RCA 44 out of these mics.

You can get more than you pay for in some cases, but you don't get a miracle.

Enjoy the prices; find uses for the microphones.

I'm in for two ribbons. We did a comparison between Royers 121 and some very cheap ribbons, and prefered the cheap ones in this case.

(Drums frontrecording)

I think this is just good to have as an alternative, and for these prices...

I would have loved to get a stereo ribbon!

you know what - what the neck - put me back in -
i will grab a few more ribbons - i've got some plans for 'em....

i'll chime in on the condensers i got in the first round...

i found them all to be almost useless. i picked up a pair of the SDC's and they were not anything i'd ever use on anything - weird mids - honky - the C42's or 451's we already have were good enough Wink out the door they went.

also grabbed an LDC (tube) which again, next to the other mics in the place, was not going to ever see any recording time. i think i used it once for recording a practice in an apartment. Highs were plagued with this nasty ringy junk that hurt the ears. i will add that the tube was soldered in place - no socket. it also came with the wrong size shockmount - no biggie a few minutes in the shop for some metal work fixed that.. for us it was not worth the time to mod or anything.
on the other hand, the ribbons we picked up were all very useful. i wished i had picked up a pair any of the models we got in order to try overheads but alas -- we only grabbed "one of each", so.... maybe this time around i'll pick up a pair.

so.... sign me back up Chance!

Lundahl and Cinimag have been unbelivably supportive.

What's the transformer situation looking like? If I ordered one of the acm-310 SDC tube mics, will it actually have a really good transformer, or just a plain old POS Chinese transformer like the one in my Apex 460?

Thanks. Definitely leaning towards the "what they heck, it's only $85" side of the scale.
