Helios photo search.
« on: February 28, 2007, 07:31:27 PM »

Larry DeVivo and I are preparing an aritcle about Helios for TapeOp mag and we are trying to find all the Helios pics we can get our hands on. Anything that you have and are willing to share, send to: curator@audities.org We especially need shots of the two early Olympic desks and the Island desk that was in Paris.

We will also be putting a webpage together for Helios on www.audities.org soon and a lot of these pics will show up there.

Thanks!

There are a few people on this new board who might be able to help. Go to the consoles link.

Thanks, but I've been on the board for over a year....same handle. We have copies of Peter's desk, the Musicland desk and Joe's Shorefire desk. It's been quite a long time since someone has posted to that board.

You seen the pics around of the Clapton one and the Leon Russell one?  I thought I'd ask before I hunt them down.

Hey JJ.

That's the Strawberry Desk that we're restoring now. I have plenty of Leon shots from when we restored THAT one 3 years ago. The Leon desk was type 78 modules...is now black...and owned by Lenny Kravitz. It KILLS me that he changed that color scheme.

Here's a shot of it from 2003:

Thanks for those links William, but if it's on the web, we've probably already got it. I should have been more clear....the shots we are trying to find are most likely ones from private collections, or scrapbooks not already posted out there. The web is like a sponge!! The shots of the strawberry desk that are linked from the www.audities.org site are probably the only new ones of that desk out there. We got them from Eric Stewart a couple of months ago. The 'restoration" shots are from last week.

Yeah, that desk just went online last year....after a pretty long (but very thorough) rebuild. Not a job for the faint of heart...as we are discovering!! When the Strawberry desk was changed from 16 to 24 bus, they left the old wiring in there...so, in short, it was a MESS.

...and here's a shot of it still in Leon's studio, next to the 40 track Stephens that the desk was designed for. It had 8 double input line modules to give the desk 40 channels on mix. 16 bus. Great desk, but we decided that the type 69 equipped Strawberry desk was better suited to represent Swettenham's work. index.php/fa/4410/0/

Thanks Mario. That's the LAST Helios built and the pride of Joe's room. Very interesting console: besides being the end of the line, it has joystick controls for quad panning, came out of The Manor Townhouse and is Tony Arnold's favorite sounding Helios. Sowter transformers.

We need some perspective here; do any of you guys have numbers for how many "Rupert Era" Neve's and 500 series API's were built? Larry has a good handle on the whole Electrodyne/Quad Eight/Sphere numbers.
