I don't mind Socrates' Drudge-baiting post. Every recording forum has 2.3 Republicans that must represent.

But the guy with the banner ad for his mike that says "Real Global Warming" should probably consider who's he's pissing off, lol.

Gore?s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

I'd like to see some sourcing for that story. He uses more than 12 times what the average American uses? People in cities live in apartments so we bring the average down a bit.

And just for starters, how much electricity does the average 20 room 8 bathroom mansion use? What's the real comparison?

Gee, there's a shock. I had a feeling this was in the "Obama attended a Muslim madrassa" category.

It fooled a lot of tv stations into thinking it was a legitimate news story. Up here in Canada it's all over the news. No real story, just "Al Gore doesn't follow his own advice!" type headline soundbite.

Kind of like when Florida in 2000 the Republicans hired and trucked in busloads of paid "protesters" to stage "demonstrations" in support of Bush to counter the real demonstrations going on against the vote fixing.

Manufacturing consent (and the perception of support).

Yes, it's true. Al Gore is as foolish as he appears.

The SUN is the cause of global warming. You can eat raw vegetables (don't fart!) and ride your bike, but I am going to barbeque a giant bald otter with jet fuel, because global warming is just another way to take stuff from the people who have it.

blah.

Seems like the debunking of this 'hoax' isn't going very well....

If I recall, the initial St. Gore response to this didn't deny the numbers, but rather explained extenuating circumstances. I will keep an eye out for further comments from the Prophet.

One report references the left-leaning associated press reviewing the utility records:

"Utility records show the Gore family paid an average monthly electric bill of about $1,200 last year for its 10,000-square-foot home.

The Gores used about 191,000 kilowatt hours in 2006, according to bills reviewed by The Associated Press. The typical Nashville household uses about 15,600 kilowatt-hours per year."

Who is the Republican? I voted for Kerry in the last election, and consider myself a Libertarian. Just because I think democrats are venal and corrupt with a fetish for junk science, doesn't mean I am a republican--they have their own issues.  Twisted Evil

As a libertarian I've stopped being surprised by hypocrisy from politicians. It's the lay of the land and was called lip service until Clinton changed all that.

We'd be better off choosing our politicians by lottery.

Uh, maybe not better off, but no worse off...

I can't resist....

quoting from The latest personal attack on Gore
Posted by David Roberts at 10:10 AM on 27 Feb 2007

"Al Gore uses a lot of electricity. Al Gore buys carbon offsets. Libertarians who take anthropogenic global warming seriously - count me among them - generally favor markets in emissions over hard regulatory targets for individual homes and businesses. That way people and companies can decide to conserve or offset or buy unused capacity as they see fit, minimizing emissions while maximizing utility.

Curiously, the "free market" think tank that gives us our first link declares that Gore's free choice to use his own money to offset his family's carbon output makes him a "hypocrite," since he thinks global warming is bad. This may seem odd, but perusing the Hit & Run comment thread from which I got the above links will clarify: libertarians believe in principles, and one of the most important principles is

AL GORE SUCKS AND IS FAT FAT FAT!!!!

Therefore anything he does is wrong."
