Hey Brad, any photos of your place?  I didn't see any on your website.

Not really - I never finished the final trim work on the room so it's a touch rough around the edges. And now we're building a new room, so I'm going to document the build from start to finish - you'll have plenty of pics soon!

I'm in a new room too, it's finished, looks purrty, but I want to wait 'till I get my new router done (2 weeks or so!), then I'll give you the photos. The rack looks stupidly empty without it.

i have learn more about taking fotos.. obviously way too much back light in this one.
Funny thing since this used to the garage.. u can see the tilt of the floor in the picture.
just dont set a pencil down on the desk....

Looks nice John - I love the natural light you have in the room while it still looks like you have the first reflections dealt with.

But definitely photography isn't my forte either - I think I need to get a pro photographer in to do some shots as soon as there's the extra cash for one.

Yeah - same problem here - I'm in a building built circa 1900 that's floor goes all over the place - it took me a long time to get my turntable shimmed so it was flat!!

Actually that might make for a cool pic anyway - just seeing nice monitors and wall treatments can be very cool  - no need to have processors or a desk to be the focus.

Anyway - curious as to how you set processing changes then in a "pure listening" style room such as this.  With remotes or smaller racks at your feet ala BK?   With an assistant behind you ala Bob O. at Georgetown?

Hey Steve,

The rack is not that far away really, but it is out of the "magic spot."  Inconveniently, I just move over and make changes.  (The rack equipment is from about 3-5 feet off the ground level.) I am aware that is not ideal, but I made that choice to have the "pure listening" situation over the ability to hear changes instantaneously.  The computers' controls are within reach of my right hand whilst seated.

But the real reason it works is that no one ever comes in when I am working, except for me, of course.  I operate everything alone.  This is not a client attended facility...everything is either my own mixing, or sent in from outside.  So I have tailored the room for only me.  No good looks or nice plants or lovely lighting like many others.

Just the equipment for the sound I need to achieve.

Our latest pics are on our website and a few extras on MySpace. We'll be updating however, when reconfiguring the rack with the Sontec. The Lavry Blue DACs (currently at rear of the rack to make space for the Gold ADC) and other stuff will go in the side rack.
I'm loving these Duntechs and Legend subs. The big comfy couch sits on a slightly raised floor area at the rear wall, so ear level there is still with tweeters. Nicely thought out - great work by Tony here & George A. Looking forward to Room 2 (also Augspurger-designed) in the not too distant future too - it's all there, just needing finishings!

Terry, I love those EAR units.

Ray Staff used to have those [along with one of Tims compressors] years back when he used to work at the Exchange in London.

Yes indeed, Tim's stuff is spectacular.  I too have one of his compressors, and I would certainly be using it in Mastering if either of two criteria were able to be met:

1) I would get a call for mono mastering
2) I would get a second 670 to match.

As for the Manley, it does a good job, but I will replace, or more likely, augment the MP with a new Lucas Mastering Series Programme Equaliser that we're working on.

In a perfect world, then I would add Tim's 825 Stereo Mastering Equaliser.

Still searching for the "perfect" analogue valve Mastering compressor, and hoping we don't have to build that as well.

I LOVE that idea, the specialist MONO mastering engineer


...or use the one you have for some cool M/S compression tricks!!
