Show us your room! pics 2007
« on: January 29, 2007, 07:24:30 PM »

Figured it would be nice way to start 2007 with some updated "audio centerfold" shots of where we actually do our work -

I'll start -
Finally got around to starting to take some snapshots of my room towards getting a very very overdue updating of my website taken care of soon - and figured I'd share some of the first here -
it's humbler than mosts here - but the fact that I'm not in debt and am my own boss kind of makes up for that!

The painting of the guitar (including real strings and frets tacked onto the canvas) was by my grandfather, Maurice Berson.

Nice setup Steve, I see you're still using that Lucid DA too.

Thanks Jerry!

Yeah, one of the two matching Lavry Blues on top feeds the Coleman's inputs as direct from source, and the second feeds the process chain - so I have the Lucid as a live feed back from the DAW (including whatever digital processing I have on - or at a switch to spdif from AES of what is just after the input of the ADC directly so I can hear things with just the analog processing only).

I needed a DAC with an onboard easily settable attenuator so I could do level matches between source and processed files quickly - I've definitely been thinking of replacing it with either a Mytek Stereo96DAC or a Lavry DA-10 but other gear purchases have taken a priority to date.

Anyway - the Lucid, while being a tiny bit smeared on the faster transients than other current options, is actually holding up well pretty well to my ear otherwise despite its age (the design was made in 1999 iirc).

Best regards,
Steve Berson

Well, here is some pics of my first room!  I've been working on it for the last 10 months, and have been semi-officially open for about 6 months now as Auricle Audio Mastering.  So far, so good!

The room is the "bonus room" in a rental town house, with future plans to expand into a bigger room.  The current room is on the small side, 12X15X8, but for my first set-up, I'm in Heaven!

Pretty much all the gear was new to me, purchased the same time my wife and moved into this place, so it's been a bit of a learning curve for my ears...lots of new things to get used to.

The desk was made by a friend of mine at Cascade Productions here is WA.  All the acoustic treatment was made by me and has been evolving as my ears get used to this room and the new gear.  With all the bass traps and absorbers, it's a little on the dry side, but the trade off in a low end response that is pretty smooth is worth it!

Let me know what you guys think!

Look, I know it's mean.  But sometimes the end justifies the mean.

I always change stuff right after I take photos...   Laughing

But this is pretty close - The day I moved into the new room (May 1st?).

I can tell because I changed out the power conditioner the next morning.

Here is some fairly new shots of my room since the acquisition of the Sontec, ARIA equipped ATR-102 & a new custom built desk.

Talk about transparency in mastering!

Nice room, Matt. You're left handed? (going by the Sontec)

Thanks Rogier, actually I'm right handed but being a drummer I like to mix it up. I also use both feet at the same time to change patches with the Z-Sys & load CD's into the drives Wink

Hey Brad, any photos of your place?  I didn't see any on your website.

But I know some places just don't take "good pictures."  There is no way I could possible take a decent photo of my room, because there is nothing in between the speakers and the engineer chair except air...nothing to "shoot."
