Well.
I was just referring to stock one for reference, since a previous poster had referred to modified drivers.
I wasn't saying the foam had anything to do with it.
So to clarify, coaxial horn-loaded speakers can be beamy in the upper highs.
Sorry if there was any confusion there.
Excellent and accurate description of how the foam works, btw!
What do those odd relief holes on the side walls of the horn do?

I think that saying coaxials are beamy is a bit incorrect.  Maybe the stock drivers in UREIs were.  Radians sound nice.  They aren't beamy.

Lets side step to JBL.  Not a real stretch since Harmon/JBL was doing UREI last.  JBL released a dual 14" driver + horn studio monitor.  They were only around for a year or two.  They required JBLs digital processing, so that may be why.  Anyone hear them?

Since those aren't stock...who knows?  If you look closely at the top driver on the right, the surround has deteriorated.  If you buy these, you should take them to SpeakerWorks on Mingo and have him check them out.  You could be in them for $1k in recones and shipping.

What size of room are these potentially going in?

Hey, you might call the TV deprtment at ORU.  They used to have several pairs of Westlakes for sale.  They were in great shape too.  Since Richard Roberts is out, they may be in a pinch for cash.

Got a link for that?

I thought the recent JBL 'home theatre' stuff ('Everest/K2' with the big horns) looked interesting but haven't heard them. Anyone?

I will sell you my remaining 813's for $5 each if you come take them away, and fix the holes where they have resided (never turned on) for the last 15 years.

Absolutely awful monitors.

Thanks! I forgot about this thread.

Did anybody hear these in the end?

Incidentally, I heard a set of Martin THX theatre speakers at a cinema here in Poland recently - some of the best monitoring I've ever heard. Do these guys do studio monitors?

"Can UREI 813's sound good?"

if you never run music through them, perhaps.

if anyone wants a set, i have a friend who is desperate to lose his.

I can't TELL you how hapy I am that the 813 era is over.

Horrible things.

While we're not on the subject: I have a pair of 604-8G's in lookalike Model 19 cabinets that I'm looking for a hot crossover for within my amatuer budget (real cheep!) Any ideas? Pls reply directly to me as I don't want my trophy fish stolen by a wandering shark!!! I am in Houston TX so we need to work out something on the transaction and shipping...
