NEW CASTLE -- An Ohio woman who led police on a high-speed chase that began in southern Madison County was apprehended Sunday at the Flying J truck stop along Interstate 70 south of New Castle.
Marcia J. Cashel,
a 72-year-old retired school teacher from Van Wert, is charged in Madison County with resisting law enforcement, a class D felony carrying a standard 18-month sentence, and reckless driving, a misdemeanor.
Authorities said police began pursuing Cashel as she drove on Madison County Road 900-S after they received a report of a motorist driving erratically on Ind. 109 about 12:15 a.m. Sunday.
The chase made its way into Henry County and onto I-70, where Cashel was allegedly
driving at speeds approaching 110 mph and swerving in and out of eastbound traffic.
Madison, Henry and New Castle police finally arrested the driver after she pulled off the interstate and into the Flying J parking lot.
At a Madison County court appearance this week, Cashel said she hadn't believed those chasing her early Sunday were really police officers.
