WUMP X >>>>> First one, for 2007
« on: January 19, 2007, 06:40:38 PM »

Hello All,

Welcome to your very first WUMP > of 2007.
WUMP X

I have now uploaded the mix.
Just a little hint on the history of the raw mix uploaded.

Original file name: Colour Grey - raw WUMP X.wav    24bit 44.1kHz

1)   Quite a hot mix at around -17db RMS: This was created, keeping in mind a concept; I tried a mix bus approach from a personal friend and a well known and highly respected engineer here in Sydney. Who’s even published a book, on his very unique and insightful concepts? We met for breakfast at a little chic caf

On uploading the Colour Grey - raw mix file, onto the Euphonics server. I noticed the file size, falls short of what's on my hard drive. On my HD it's 62megs, on the server it's showing up as 56 megs???

I will upload another one shortly..
And with Pieter Vincenten assistance below; Thanks again Pieter.

Pieter to KAyo:
I took the liberty of adding (no end) to the uploaded file without the ending to save folks from accidentally downloading the incomplete track if they want the complete one.

Hello All,

Welcome to your very first WUMP > of 2007.
WUMP X

•   The desired overall RMS would be nice at around -12db RMS

Hmmm, according to Samplitude and Voxengo meters, the mix is already in the -12dB average RMS.

As per, Sound Forge the average RMS is -17db RMS. Just by looking at the meters, Yup it jumps around 14db RMS and back. But, as per the statistics in SF, it shows up as -17db RMS average. I checked it a few time, before posting.

Cheers.

Well SF is probably averaging the whole song, which starts off soft gradually gets louder, then ends soft as well.  What I meant was the loud sections of the song (say bewteen 2:30 and 3:20) is already at -12 RMS.  How loud do you want this to be?  Very Happy

Matey, go with what you think is best. If you take it to -12db RMS, it does get louder than the mix, but, i leave that to you too. Personally, even matched volumes is OK, really! As long as something more was rescued or gained out of the mix overall, even that would suffice. MY approach was to work with the same or slightly lowered gain structure. And moved into areas of lo/mid/hi bands blends and seeking perhaps better articulation and more clarity, if I could.

This is more or less like your typical client. Coming back from an adventure of recording and mixing, most times in a tunnel effect... At times they get it just right, and then there are times when you feel like a butcher in an abattoir, moving carcasses around. Laughing

Hopefully, this ain't the latter. Cool

Sound forge reports RMS 3dB lower than it should. So if it says -17dB, it's really -14dB. The reason is that they don't follow the AES-17 standard, but rather use the mathematical definition of RMS.

Afraid I am going to have to drop out of this one- work doesn't permit. Partly mastering work and partly coding AU plugins and bringing them to market. Maybe next time...
