URS EQ?
« on: December 07, 2006, 10:33:49 AM »

I got the massive pack 5 bunlde a while ago, very happy with it so far.

I've had various e-mails from the manufacturers with upgrade offers since I got it, but today got one from URS.

What I'm wondering is, are the A and N series EQ plugs worth the upgrade fee ($500)?

To me, this boils down to two issues. Do they plugs sound like the EQ they are emulating? And do they sound good?

I would generally see the 2nd issues as being completely independant. For example, I find the BF Meek EQ nothing like the hardware, but sometimes the sound of that EQ is very useful. Would I find the same thing with the URS stuff?

i've never even heard the URS stuff.  i'm so stuck on the UAD stuff that i haven't really looked much further for more stuff.

EQ3, cambridge EQ and the Pultec cover everything i need.

I have the A, N, and S plugs running in both Nuendo and Pro Tools LE.  I find a use all the time for the A, especially since I can't rent any API EQs in town.

I used the S on a hip hop prject and found it had a little more bite and warmth than the Waves SSL E plug.

I liked the N for some things, but have found that the UA Neve plugs are much better, much closer to the 1073s if I can't rent them in.

URS has a great demo policy.  Why not download and drive them for 2 weeks and see what you think afterwards.

The URS plugins are good quality.

I have the A and N EQ's, in addition to all of the UA stuff.

There are a few occasions where I used the URS over one of the UA's, and other where the UA worked better.

But do not fear Bobby's quality ethic.

Save it...  I have the URS and like it, but it's no where near UAD-1 Neve plugs...
Save more money and get the a UAD-1 Flexi.  Use your voucher for the Neve Bundle.

I do like the API EQ...

Too late, bought em yesterday morning.

API is very nice. Haven't used the Neve beyond trying it out. Quite like what I heard, but don't have the real thing or the UA plugs to compare it against.

A UA card is in my plans, just not yet.
