Kick drum LDC
« on: January 01, 2007, 11:31:32 AM »

Any ideas on a budget mic for outside of a kick drum?
I'd also like it to be able to cover some other duties as well.

I've got about $500

Maybe the bluebird? Something from Rode?

I had a gt 55 that worked pretty good but then I blew it up...
It still works and I don't hear any clipping from the capsule (never did) but it's become very intermittent. When any significant amount of air or spl hits it it craps out and returns to life seconds later.  Hmm...

I use a C01 on the outside but I'm very cautious about it.

I have an EV cardinal, I wonder how that's going to sound, it's rated for that sort of SPL

What type of sound are you looking for?  What kind of music?  One of my favorites for kick is the Senn E602.  You can also throw it on bass cab and floor tom.

I like the sound of the 602.  I've been using a beta 52 inside and the GT 55 outside both about 4-6 inches from the head.

I like the huge low end I've been getting with this combination.  I remember the 602 having this sort of sound but I'm not sure it was the same.

I'll look into it.

I've used my KSM32 to good affect.  One of the studios I work in tried out the Audix cx-112 (I think that's right).  Those in attendance thought it sounded as nice as the U47 FET.  I think it's under $400.00

I got an at 4040...less than $300 and I still have money left over to take my woman to see Wicked the musical.

I will report back with results on the 4040.
