An Inconvenient Truth
« on: November 15, 2006, 01:40:07 PM »

I do not like to get up on the soapbox very often.
I think I have a responsibility as a moderator of the forum to try and play pretty much by our own rules
That being said
I was invited last night to see a screening of Al Gore's movie
An Inconvenient Truth
NARAS here in Los Angeles screened the movie and after
Melissa Etheridge, who wrote the end title song, took questions along with the producers and the score composer
Having produced Melissa's last record, I wanted to go down, give love and see the film

Now comes the important part
The movie if you are unaware is about Global Warming
I am extremely into politics and stay up on world affairs
but I had not had the time yet to see the film
Now having seen it I must stand up and say to each and every one of you
You must not only go see it and have it change your life
You need to become a part of a world movement to stop the decline of our Earth
I believe the contribution that Al Gore has made by getting the story out, far outweighs what he might have done as president
considering he was once the next president of the USA

This movie will change you
It speaks so clearly on the issues of Global Warming, that you cannot miss it
It is one of the most important pieces of art created ever

Just as a by product, I was so proud of the song Melissa wrote and the how it punctuates the film

Please go see it
tell your friends
tell your neighbors
tell your family
buy a copy of the DVD on Nov 21 and give one to your school
to your kids teacher
we need to make a difference here
and we can
this is not politics
it is not Republican or Democrat or Christian or Muslim
it is about our future
the future of our Earth

Start now by using less gas.

Perhaps if your government doubled the price it might get you guys into smaller more fuel efficient cars!

Steven Hawking has said he figures Earth will be un-inhabitable within 1000 years....  Confused

People think we can "terra-form" Mars .... I say we start by "terra-forming" earth!  (Surely that would be easier?)

Great topic Ross!  I for one will be buying this DVD.

PS:  I traded my 3/4 ton Ford Pick Up Truck for a Dodge Mini Van, and have been saving big bucks on fuel... may even get a Smart Car in the coming years...

I plan on seeing it. Now that I am a grandfather, my outlook on the future generation has really hit home. There have been a lot of programs on cable TV that really shakes me up. We don't have a backup planet. I think many people think it is all politics and they don't trust what they hear on the subject. Perhaps the more that see the evidence, will get shook up too.

We should all be looking at getting cars that will get 30MPG as an average.

It starts with each of us.

Something I am in the planning stages of doing is installing solar panels on my house and studio. I saw something on PBS where someone who did this, his elictric meter was actually running backwards selling power back to edison! This demonstration was done with nothing but a few things running in his house, but hey my bill is usually between $200.00 and $400.00 a month. This would save me $ and save the planet some on fossel fuel consumtion. On top of all this, there is a tax incentive and Edison will pay part of the installation expense. I will post a link after this idiot nails a 4 measure simple guitar lick (maybe 2-3 hours at the rate we are progressing LOL)
Excellent topic that should move EVERYONE!

this is the crux of the matter
people believe it does not matter
but the truth of it is
that it all matters
every little thing matters
and every little thing builds into one bigger thing
and then
our world leaders take note
the car builders take note
it actually can make a difference
just like this little thread
we might equate to a bunch of flies on a cows ass as you go down the road
at 70 mph
but if you look close
we are there buzzing away bit by bit

Kyoto is critically flawed.  The idea of trading credits is ridiculous.  We need something better.

My personal view is to lobby governement and industry to invest in researching alternative energy sources (solar, wind, hydro, bio, even nuclear).

So what you are saying is that since N Korea has nukes, nothing else matters?
