10-17-06 -- BUSH STOLE THE CONSTITUTION
« on: October 18, 2006, 01:43:25 AM »

Yes, it's official.  George Bush signed the Military Commissions Act.  In doing so he destroyed the Constitution and undid 200 years of American history.

Sound crazy?  Sound like hyperbole?

You be the judge: The Military Commissions Act

1) Anyone the President or the Secretary of Defense declares to be an enemy combatant now is one.

2) The right of Habeas Corpus no longer exists.  You no longer have to be told your crime or have the right to know the evidence against you.

3) Torture is acceptable -- even to the point of organ failure.  The torture that is now legal is what we called "war crimes" at the end of World War II -- and imprisoned people who did it.

4) Interpretation of the Geneva Convention is solely up to the President.

5) The Republican controlled Supreme Court has already indicated they won't overturn this legislation.

All 300 Million American people are now, without a doubt, fucked (almost) beyond repair.

What scares me is NOBODY KNOWS!  Ask any American what happened today and they wouldn't know or care about this.

THIS IS THE DARKEST PERIOD IN OUR HISTORY.  NO ONE IS DEMANDING THE REPEAL OF THIS LEGISLATION.  NO ONE IS RIOTING.  NO ONE IS CALLING THEIR SENATOR.  NO ONE FUCKING KNOWS OR CARES.

NOW THAT YOU'VE READ THIS, WHAT WILL YOU DO?  IF IT'S NOTHING, THEN WE ARE FUCKED.

Congress wrote the legislation that Bush told them to.  Then he signed it.  This Congress won't fight him on anything.  And if something is passed in a way he doesn't like, he adds a "signing statement" saying which parts of the legislation he will and won't adhere to.

The justices he appointed won't fight him.  At the moment there aren't three branches of government.

It's fukken great...

So...

Maybe that's why noone is rioting...

Because you (and you know I love ya) I think are over reacting...

Your numbered points aren't even true.

You can't win people over if you aren't willing to address reality.

Now...

I know you're pissed and I respect that...

But I would argue that our current place in history has almost been a constant since our founding...

With respect to other nations and our continual advance and growth as peeps....

lemme nough

Tik,

I can't be angry with you!

And I'm not angry.  Watch this video.  It is Keith Olbermann (there's a good German name!) of MSNBC (a very legitimate cable organization owned by Microsoft and NBC) talking to a university professor about the ramifications of this signing.  After watching, you'll see it is not my opinion alone, but also those of well-qualified experts.

Best,

Barry

Sorry.  This is a Quicktime movie.  A Media Player version can be downloaded by going to http://www.crooksandliars.com.  Then scrolling down to The Day Habeas Corpus died.

wake up people.

bush and his buddies have been waiting for decades for this.

there was a schoolfriend of bush that mentioned that they were talking about using the loophole in the constitution (when there is a war the president doesn't have to respond to the government 100%).

they were already re-hashing age-old political theories about a war-state providing unlimited power.

unlimited power for the elite to exploit.

think about laws that limit toxic pharmaceutical products..

liability of manufacturers will be tied to their political ties.

no more trouble with public opinion.. the world will become propriety of the ultra-rich and powerful.

think of the implications

the last 100 years have been an exception to the rule. War and exploitation have been the norm for thousands of years.

when those laws get used against AMERICANS it will be too late.

say goodbye to the fundamental legal principle of 'innocent unless PROVEN guilty'.. perhaps the cornerstone of freedom for individuals..

it won't take long before this technical legal principle will be applied to many different laws which extend down into the commonday activities of citizens.

once a law is established, it can be used as a foundation to create other laws based on it's principle.

This is the way wall-street lawyers have been working since the onset of corporate establishment in the late 1800's.

Max,

Thanks for adding these links.  I agree completely.  And as you see, under ten people have taken an interest in this topic.  Either people don't understand the reality of what has happened or they think it to be hyperbole or some liberal fear-cast.

It's in Doonesbury.  It's on some websites.  The Democrats in Congress have yelled this.  And very few people are "getting" it.

I'm amazed.

I think that people are just overwhelmed by all the crap. It's just too much to comprehend or deal with. And most people are desperately trying to keep their heads above water just day to day.

Yeah this is the return of facism big time. Corpratism has always been the root of facism. Going right back to IG Farben. They wrote a lot of Nazi process and procedure because they were the corporation that put the Nazis in power. And Bush's grandfather was there making money off of war as the banker channeling funds from America to the Nazi war machine. It's a family tradition.

If you think this is bad just wait. This is just the begining.
