Anyone aware of any metering devices that would display RMS values for each of the three L-C-R components of the mix?

It seems this would be useful.

Dorroughs ?

I guess I'm thinking about using DSP to derive three levels:
one represents the phantom center image - the signal common to L and R channels.

The other two meters show the L and R components.

All on a common / normalized rms scale.

Im thinking about metering that corresponds to the bars on the charts at the top of this thread.
It seems this would be a useful perspective to have on a mix.

Try an x/y scope with marks at 0, 90 and 45 degrees. Tilt the scope tube so 45 degrees (center) is vertical and it would make more sense.

It would look like a 3-pronged-V. No-Person's land would be the areas in between the lines.

Well shoot, if ya subtract drums and grand pianos that I don't want 10 feet wide, I do this anyway!

i am not teri either, but i play one in a towel factory.  i believe terry's point is if it is too wide, move the microphones.

Come to think of it, execpt for strings, I don't want "wide" instruments anyway. I'll do em all mono.

Yeah moving the mics is the solution unless you are mixing your stuff done the "old wide way" or someone else's.

By the way, I REALLY appreciste the R&D coming in from around here.

All those having made a significant contribution will receive a free plug-in.

Miles gets two.

Well, anyone using the system will need two for stereo.

At this time, there is no call for an all-in-one stereo unit.
