strange looking KM253 on Ebay
« on: July 19, 2011, 01:36:33 AM »

I have much experience with the KM253, having a pair available at a studio I worked at for some years. While the body of this one looks right, the metalwork of the head on this one looks like a KM84 style. Did Neumann make it in two 'looks'?

I have not been able to figure out how to insert an image in this posting, so forgive me for simply linking you to the eBay sale.

This a KM253 equipped with a newer Mylar replacement head.

When Neumann ran out of spare aluminum capsules for the KM53 and M50 in he 1970s they used KM63 heads as used in the KM63 and U63 omni mics.

This was the only solution offered whenever someone had a bad K53 capsule. It's your basic KM83 Mylar set up and capsule sound.
