Eric

Pieter?(yay or nay, man?)

Well I already finished mastering it but I don't think I'll survive listening to 20+ smashed versions of this tune. So instead I'll spend my time finding a great hiphoptrack for wump IX Smile

The song is: "Ladder(it's chemical)" by Sacred Cell.

I guess the main challenges are going to be softening the upper-mids(some unpleasant resonances there too), sibillance, and making the lows more defined.
it's already a dense mix so i don't know if you want to push for competitive loudness, but if it can be done tastefully, why not?

everyone's gonna do what they're gonna do anyhow, so these are just suggestions, if you want to make it more of a challenge for yourself(client requests).

signups will be cut midnite, the 24th Sept.(please PM your signup with subject "Wump 8")

Sure. I'm allready done.  Very Happy

Such a shame there is so much bus compression.  Sad I like the song but it is ruined IMO.

I think with this song it would pay off big-time to ask for a remix. The band spend probably a day in the studio for recording and mixing this track and a whole lot more time writing and practicing it. It would only take 15 more minutes to pan this and to take off the buscompression and the track would easily sound twice as good after mastering compared to what we will get with this mix.

I agree we have to work with what we get but in this case our client, the band, would get so much more value for their money with a minor extra investment in studiotime.

I always check with the engineer if I get a mono mix. Every time I did they had made some kind of mistake and were glad I told them about it and happily supplied a stereo version. And although in this case the fx tracks are stereo I wouldn't be surprised if something has gone wrong with the rest of the tracks.

Sometimes mono can be nice, like with Detroit Techno, but in this case I don't think it's appropriate.

Enough with the rant Very Happy

Investement? The mixer ruined it and should fix it for free!!!

The extra panning would indeed be nice but just turning of the bus compression should make this ten times better allready!

EDIT: You mentioned the bus compression allready. Missed that.  Smile

hang on, are you saying there is no stereo information in the file at all, or just that it sounds mono, because this is supposed to be a stereo mix?

did something get screwed up with the file through yousendit?

If we can get a better track, nifty.

Otherwise- whiners  Twisted Evil

This is why the big name guys DON'T do these- why should they take a cheesey mix, do their best with it, send it anonymously to a bunch of demented MEs' randomly configured monitoring, and then get slammed in a bunch of different ways by said MEs over the limitations of their own monitoring? Laughing

I'm not proud and I'm starting to get business on my own, so _I_ don't care Wink
