IMP6 song proposals:
« on: August 09, 2006, 08:47:35 AM »

Any proposals for songs we will abuse, err, mix with IMP6?

Our own scottoliphant offered a mix (see http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/index.php/m/177201/0/#msg_1 77201).

More options?

Hey Scott,

I personally would rather do that, to me it is more of a challenge than distance mic'ed jazz from good players.

The jazz track would have its own share of fun, too (esp w/ bleed).

My 2 cents...

won't hurt my feeling either way, if anyone wants to try something out of their "comfort" zone or whatever, it's not all distance mics. Everything is close mic'd. The band played in the same room, no headphones, and i used omnis on drums for overs. there is a lot of bleed, knew that going in. I'm down for whatever though, it's all good practice, rock, jazz, pop, folk death metal

Well lets hear some.  I can't offer anything without clearing the idea with clients which would be a bit of a hassle, but can do if no-one else comes up with something....

Looking forward to the next IMP!

well, if i throw up a mix of a song that might be used in IMP, that might spoil the whole deal yeah?

anyone have limits on track count? that might kill my offering right there.

Agreed... Ideally, I'd rather have one person review the submissions and pick what we work on, before anyone hears even a rough mix.  Last month that was J, and it worked out well.   Obviously with his family situation right now, I don't think we should lean on him to do it this month.

Since he's got his hands full right now, does anyone want to volunteer to be producer/track picker?

I'm game if no one else is...

No problems here... unlimited tracks in ITB-land.

thanks for getting this going, but i'm going to flex my moderator muscle a bit.

i want all submissions to be PM'd to me.

submissions need to not be heard by all in a mixed format.

i'll do the picking, and we'll get it going.

i'd really like to do a thick rock mix.

i think the biggest thing people struggle with is clarity and density at the same time.

IMP needs to be educational in a hands on way, not just a bunch of peer stroking over mixes we're all comfortable doing.

if you aren't into a c ertain style of music, i'll make sure we do an IMP with that style.

i do this every day, if you think i don't mix songs i don't like, you're crazy.

I fully agree.
I absolutely didn't like the style of OTO, but mixed it after
the deadline and it was a VERY good learning experience.
Wished I had the time to do it before the deadline...

I would  like to see large track counts and HARD rock... Agreeing that this is the most challenging to mix.  The harder the music the better for my tastes.

My gear can handle 80+ tracks so no worries here....

Free to all... you're welcome to submit a tune for mixing (by private message to J Hall) or wait until he choses this month's victim.

Then, the rule is, whoever gets a mix submitted by the deadline is a participant.  The rest, we call "spectators." Smile

Cheers,

I'd really like to try it out. I was talking with Cerberus about mix stuff and realized that rather than just run my mouth about good things to do, I want to get my hands dirty. I've just warmed up with a Chris mix of the ill-fated Team Tombstone, and had lots of fun (and it didn't take all night, either). I want more Very Happy

As much fun and good practice as it would be to mix a project with 60-80 tracks, IMHO, it may be benificial to keep the track count down to accomidate for various members DAW's.  I've never dropped in more than 25 tracks on mine, so I'm not sure how much more it can handle.  Also, don't the 'lite' versions of pro tools have track limits?
But, yeah, hard rock with a track count accessible by the majority on the board, would indeed, rawk!

track count also increases the size of the RAR file.  we need to keep them file size to a minimum if possible.

IM is up for grabs by anyone, no sign up needed.
