Data retrieval company, now. Don't do anything else (unless you _____really______ know what you're doing), because it might just mess up the file system more.
Since the HD isn't blown, retrieval shouldn't even be too costly. I dropped my laptop a few weeks back and the HD started making odd sounds and wouldn't boot up. After looking at the pricing of data retrieval in such cases, I decided to just bite it and bought a new HD. Luckily I had just done the backups. I also tried to re-calibrate the read head by wildly swinging the HD around. It was fun but only helped in taming the aggression.
You start doing backups after it's all gone. I keep an external HD to which I at least try to dump projects.
