Need a new CD printer
« on: August 05, 2006, 03:55:42 PM »

Im looking for a new printer for my CDs. (been doing too much with a sharpie)

Tell me what to look for and what to avoid regarding dedicated laser/inkjet CD printers.  I don't care so much about speed, but I want quality and reliability.

Should I just go to Staples or Office Depot?

Epson Stylus Photo R200 here. I've had it for over a year. Very happy with it. I've sold a few clients on buying one. I think I paid about $100 from buy.com.

The only caveat is that the ink'll cost ya... but I'm sure you already knew that. Par for the course.

I have on of these and love it. Had one at me previous employer and between the two have used them for about six trouble-free years.

We have the Signature Pro from Primera and it works good. My only gripe is the cost of the ink which you can only get from Primera since it is bar coded.

Another good printer is the FlashJet 4800 Inkjet.See here http://www.cds.com/printers/FJ4800.htm or here http://www.cds.com/Duplicator/Rquest/datasheets/FlashJet_480 0_Sept2005.pdf 4800 dpi and it works GREAT!

I use an Epson R220 (basically, the slightly newer 200).  Love it.  Ink is cheap as hell (really!) from www.supermediastore.com also.

Although I only use it for discs, it can utilized for general printing use also.

I used to have TY's thermally printed in bulk and wrote the rest with water-based permenent CD markers - I thought the color design added a little "class" to it though...

I use a black pen.
I've heard you can get them in other colours too.
