A SM81 omni capsule that I have sounds very weak and thin compared to another 81 omni capsule I have. Shure no longer repairs them.
Anyone out there know of someone that does service them?
They are somewhat rare these days since Shure stopped making them.
On a semi-related note. I recently compared my 1980s SM81 cardioid mic with a new one. Ouch. The new one sounded somewhat thin
and even had a higher self noise. Not even close. Unless the new mic was somehow defective, that is disappointing.
