WUMP VI news
« on: July 12, 2006, 08:38:11 AM »

OK, it's time to get WUMP VI started, but I want to outline a few things first.

1] WUMP is not a competition, it's a learning experience. If you participate, you will get good critical feedback about your submission, but at a cost - you must not only give feedback for the other submissions, but you must also outline the technical details of what you did, and more importantly, why.

2] I will be the client in this one, telling all clearly what I want from the mastering.

3] If you wish to submit a track as a candidate for WUMP VI (and you have proper clearance to do so), please place a link on this thread for us to give it a listen. All submissions must be made by Saturday @ noon  (07/16/06). We will then vote on which track to use and proceed from there.

4] While no one should 'pull punches', we should always remember that many people can hear them and even more will be reading these posts - we have about a 100:1 lurker/poster ratio on this board alone - so let's not tear anyone apart. Be constructive in your criticisms as anything too harsh will simply put people on the defensive.

5] WUMP is not a competition, it's a learning experience. (repeated for emphasis)

Further comments/ideas welcomed.

Let's get this thing started...

I have 8 or 9 mixes we could use from old customers, don't worry he approved the use of them!

But they arent what i'd call Stellar mixes and perhaps the guys would rather work with better production.

they are available anyway guys!

Again, if you have a track you'd like to volunteer, please post a link to an MP3 so we can have a listen...

Hi Forumsters / Brad -
Based on what was I thought a decent amount of consensus on previous threads (including 3 PM's indicating especial interest in working on it) I would like to provide the mix for WUMP VI - the track being an instrumental of two cellos, violin, viola, and drums, entitled "Dog Days," performed by the group I play cello in, Invert.  It can be heard via streaming mp3 at http://www.myspace.com/invertstrings by clicking the 2nd tune on the player in the upper right hand corner.

HOWEVER - there are a few things I would like to do differently from the rules you posted if I am to post this track:

1) I would like to be the "client" because I AM the client.  This track will most likely be the lead off track for our upcoming third CD - and while we're finishing the recording for one final track and still searching for a label our plans are indeed for this to be released this fall or winter.  So - I have no interest whatsoever in someone playing pretend client for this as I actually have a number of fairly specific requests - including not crushing this particular piece.  Working on this track actually represents a real world situation in that the actual clients would be able to provide back feedback as to what we like the best.

2) Instead of just posting a public link I would like to have a thread for people to "sign up" by posting their email addresses, similar to what was done for the WOMPs, with a cut off of the first 20 people to sign so that the amount of submissions are a manageable size - and then I will email them the link to the hi-res 24bit/88.2kHz mix file.  I say we give a few days for sign up - and I'll email the link to the file to the participants this Saturday.

What say y'all?

Best regards,
Steve Berson

All sounds fine to me, Steve, with one exception - you can't master it yourself for WUMP VI. I know several folks have wished to use your stuff previously, so this is a good idea.

Any reason why we shouldn't move forward with Steve's idea?

Excellent and finally!

As implied, Dog Days have been lurking underneath the WUMP surface for too long and it's about time to let it breathe now.

Isn't the best idea to PM Steve our emails, rather than putting them up in public, due to the viagra spam-searching crap that fish emails all over the web?

Best Regards

If people post their emails something like:
steve at totalsonicmedia dot com

or

steveNO@SPAMtotalsonicmedia.com

etc.
then I'm pretty sure you will be able to avoid the spam-bots.
