I've never opened one up. It seems like everyone who has tried to install rotary switches has given up. Why?
Are the filter networks on daughter boards along with the pot connections? There must be some practical reason no one has done this for the FF board.

It's tempting to want to gut this thing, put it in a 3U chassis with actual switches and proper legending on a custom faceplate.
I mean, it sounds great, but feels a bit silly as I still document it like "+2clicks @ 1click left of 2k, Q=3 clicks right of 0.6"

I've actually done that. And while you're in there you can do things like changing the step sizes, ganging for stereo, adding individual bypasses, etc. The parts count and cost adds up surprisingly quickly but if you like the circuit it can be a good way to go. Fun to do as well."
