Don't want to hijack the thread but see that this is the latest WUMP project so I'd like to repost a reply to a question that Matt asked me on Glenn's board.

Someone said that this isn't what the client asked for. I mentioned that I
didn't know of any parameters for the project nor heard any instructions
from the client and just did a quick master because I liked the song. I
didn't spend any time on it and didn't know that there were parameters set
by the producer of that tune, because those were on another thread and I
didn't find that thread until later. Someone said that the RMS was too hot
for that genre and I doubt that he's been doing much country lately. The
last 5 country projects that I mastered, the clients asked for the music
hot. Check out Josh Turner and some of the new country cd's, they are very,
very hot. Had I mastered that for myself, I wouldn't have made it near as
hot, but the RMS content on that tune, is in the same ballpark as what my
country clients are asking for currently, so not knowing what the WUMP
producer requested, I matched what my country clients have been requesting.
I also was in the middle of mastering some heavy metal and I wouldn't rule
out that my ears were just prone to being too hot that day. You know we all
have good days and bad days, I'll chalk that up to one of my bad days. On
the WOMP II project, I was the only one besides Brad that didn't get a lot
of people dissing the work, but Brad had 8 more months than the rest of us
on that one. With the WUMP song, I got it as hot as I thought I could before
degradation made it too bad, but obviously too hot for the other guys on the
project, but after I heard those two comments, I played it next to some Josh
Turner and some other new country tunes and it doesn't sound any hotter than
those. The RMS is hot, but it doesn't really degrade from the content that
much, so if you look at the waveform and analyze for RMS it's going to be
full and hot, if you use your ears, you'll hear some slight distortion on
the vocals at spots, but nothing was clipped on that song, it's just too hot
and I agree. I could have redone it, like some of the others, but I've been
swamped and just didn't have the time to devote to the project.
